E' stata descritta come un'alga, un mulino a vento, una creatura fantascientifica, un albero futurista e dall'autore come l'interno di una cella ....
Price dimostra come materiali moderni come le plastiche ad alte prestazioni sviluppate dalla NASA possano essere utilizzate nell'arte. Cytoplasm fa parte di una serie di lavori prodotti utilizzando simili materiali per creare sculture mobili.

The idea for Cytoplasm was to somehow provide visual image of the inside of a cell. There are a lot of ideas, notions and objects in the world which are often described, but we don’t really know what they look like.
Artists have often attempted to capture ideas of all sorts of intangibles such as faith, love, fear.
I don’t know what the inside of a cell looks like, but I what I am interested in is showing people things which they have never seen before and the more extraordinary things we see the richer we become.
